Friday Confessional

You know how you really love something more than life? I mean really, really, REALLY love it? And then you sort of get over it a bit and something else takes its place. Well I think that is happening to me and it makes me sad. I LOVED flannel. I pink, puffy heart loved flannel. I still do, don’t get me wrong but it may not be as intense. Flannel is problematic. It shrinks tons. Like boatloads. And then it can fade and pill. You can sort of tell which ones will cause you trouble but sometimes even the really, really, really good stuff lets you down.

I have a new love though. KNITS! Oh how I love knits! And all the amazing things I can do with them. I have a bunch of scarves to go up on Etsy soon (I just need to measure them). I can’t wait to sell more stuff so I can get more knits!!!!

Theme Thursday – Ice cream

I don’t know how it started. That is a lie. I do know how it started. I just don’t want to admit it. I started going to this gym which is right around the corner from my house. In the summer we walked. In the winter we drive. We are lazy. Or  I just may hate bundling everyone up, fighting over who goes in the stroller and then walking toddler pace around the corner to just unwrap everyone again. It is quicker to drive. Anyway. This gym has a Tim Hortons in the parking lot. When Alice goes to the gym she thinks she gets to go to Tim Hortons for “two doughnuts, chocolate please” (timbits really) on the way home.

I use to entertain this because it meant I could get a sprinkle doughnut (and maybe a sour cream glazed (ok definitely also a sour cream glazed)). Then I stopped going because really I was just not burning enough calories to eat that doughnut (ok two). So I stopped, but Alice didn’t. She really likes to go inside but this past week it was too cold, I was too tired, I knew if I saw the doughnuts my will would be gone. So I did the reasonable thing and went through the drive through. Alice was not happy. Alice was very unhappy. I then promised her a date on the weekend to go to the doughnut store, just the two of us.

The day came for our date and I was super excited to go out with just her. When I asked her about it she said “I want ice cream. Daddy take me. You stay home.”. WHAT A BRAT! (a cute brat who is all mine). You know what made me the most mad about this situation? Ice cream sounded way better than a doughnut. In the end we all went as a family on a day where the locals were saying ‘Stay home! The roads are horrible!’. It was snowing and blowing and drifty and cold. We all thought it was just another winter day. I fear the day that I turn into a Southerner and hibernate whenever it gets cold or it snows. Until then we will eat ice cream Blizzards in a blizzard and think nothing of it.

What I’m working on Wednesday

Running behind this week. I don’t know why. I’m going to blame the cold. It’s cold. I don’t mind the cold, but I rather it be hot or at least sweater weather.

So this week I’m working on a top secret item. So secret that the person who is getting it has no clue it’s coming. YAY! So you can’t see it.

I just finished this bad boy (or girl). I love it! I’m going to have to do more this way. I love the ribbon at the bottom. I also put in a layer of ruffles underneath so it was still nice and full.

I just downloaded this pattern  for the almost one year old! So that is high on the priority list since her birthday is Sunday! How did that happen!!!!

I’m going to make it in this I think.

Sinister Swarm by Anna Maria Horner. I will have a yellow pettiskirt peaking out of the bottom. So excited!

Must Stash – January

This months Must-stash club had my emotions all over the place. IMG_8589

There were some ups and downs when I got everything out of the package (which I ripped open in the post office parking lot, impatient much?) Overall though it was an excellent month!

This one is from Legacy by Angela Walters. It is Classic Tiles in Custard. It’s a nice mellow yellow.

The solids this month weren’t ones that I would normally pick but I can see them working in projects as fillers.

IMG_8610The middle is a really nice pale yellow. I think with these three the mustard throws me. I’m sure that it will be a welcome addition to a quilt if it has the right colour pallet.

The next 3 are from Andrea Turks Theodore & Izzy collection. They are ditsy flower in grey, pink and turquoise.

IMG_8609The pink has already been claimed by a certain daughter of mine! Hahaha. Black and white or grey and white in this case always challenge me. I don’t know what it is but I always feel myself thinking that there is no way I would use that in a quilt. I think I’m still dealing with my issues with dark quilts made with hunter greens, cranberry, navy blue and any dark colour will take me there. I think I need to force myself to make a grayscale quilt.

Some of those fabrics I could see myself picking out but not all of them. BUT that is why I love this club. I have too much of fabric that I consider star fabric. Fabrics that I want to showcase. I need these other fabrics for their supporting role. However, these next fabrics made me jump for joy.

IMG_8599When I saw them. I thought there was a mistake, or that someone was copying fabric patterns (not cool!). I ripped one out of the package and read the selvage. I couldn’t believe my eyes! It was Smile and Wave from the Koi collection by Rashida Coleman. I have some of this already but I covet the whole collection. I wrote about it previously here. Now I have all the Smile and Wave colourways! Plum, Water, Reed, Shell and Rose! ALL ORGANIC! My organic fabric bin is very happy with this! I was so surprised to get 2.5 yards of organic fabric!!!

I have mentioned that I love The Intrepid Thread and this Must-Stash Club makes me happy. Well I’ve been debating another one of their clubs. It is a block of the month club.

photo 1(1)I’m really not a fan of busy quilts. Too much going on or too much quilting really isn’t my thing. Yet, there is something about this quilt. I have no clue what it is. I had firmly told myself that I would not be a part of this group. Then I saw the first month block. The Intrepid thread blogged their first block. I was sold. They have the option of doing either a Calm or Intense version and I am normally one to go for calm colourways. Not this time. The intense block was yelling at me! This is going to be soooo much fun!

What my child wore

My oldest has a great fashion sense. Well in her mind. I’m one of thooosssse parents who embraces the toddler sense of style and goes with it. Why not? I don’t really care if other parents judge me. Although by the response to today’s outfit at the gym I think most adults are secretly jealous that they can’t wear a princess dress out in public everyday. I don’t have a picture of today’s stellar outfit which is a pink satin princess dress from the dress up bin. BUT I do have this beauty. photo (19)This is one of the best so far. I tried to encourage a nice grey shirt under the dress (it is like a million degrees below 0 here) and a nice pair of grey tights. Nope. It wasn’t going to fly, instead she wants multi colours. On her legs are babylegs so they only go up so high, her poor cold legs! She was all like ‘Whatever Mom, I like what I like’. It amused my facebook friends and the daycare staff. It makes me want to make her crazy dresses in fabric she picks out herself. It will be all ‘Hell Kitty!’ (that’s not a typo, it is either Hell Kitty or Hi Kitty around here) or bright pink shoes. I may go for it. I hope someday she is a fashion designer.

Theme Thursday – Bottle

I’ve been meaning to make these for a bit. Mrs PTB is making me get things done!

bottlesI will not take credit for these. I totally stole the instructions from Disney Baby. The blue one is a wave bottle and the purple is a glitter bottle. Well both have glitter. I LOVE GLITTER! (but not when my 2 year old plays with it)

IMG_8556It is very hard to get a picture of the wave. I tried, I mostly failed, you get to see the results.

IMG_8555I’m not even going to admit that the bottles were the most expensive part of this project (opps, did I just admit that?)

IMG_8551I was being picky. I wanted smooth bottles. I may have bought Smart Water. What is Smart Water? Am I smarter now? Why is it so expensive? On principle I’m against bottled water and very against claims to make me smarter when I don’t feel it is true.

IMG_8534I still need to glue the lids on. I’m not allowed to use crazy glue.

IMG_8523I’ve been known to glue myself to myself every time. I’ve been banned.

IMG_8580I may spend a lot of time looking at the glitter one. Many hours of watching glitter float around.

IMG_8570I found a new section at Michaels today. A glue section. It made me strangely happy to know there are that many different kinds of glue. Most of which were not so powerful that I have been banned from using them.

IMG_8564Clear glue makes me think of grade school with those little bottles with orange lids with the slit in them. Do you know what I’m talking about? Like the one on the right only clear glue.

Ahh the good old days. I always ended up with glue on me back then too. Then I would peel it off. It was a weird feeling.
